When Marnie Was There (Omoide no marnie) is mysterious and psychological movie produced by studio ghibli.It is based on Joan G. Robinson’s novel of the same name but the setting is different and based in japan instead of England.

Synopsis-

The plot centers around Anna sasaki, a 12 year old girl who lives in Sapporo with foster parents.She is unhappy with her foster parents as she knows that they receive money from govt. to raise her and they haven’t even mention that to her.She is even isolated and unsocialable with other kids of her age. One day she collapses due to asthma attack and is advised to spent few days somewhere with clear air. So she spends her summer days with her uncle & aunt in a seaside town.

Even in this town she feels isolated and and comes across a mansion which is said to be vacant since no one had been lived there for very long time. But she tries to go closer to the mansion due to her curiosity and she finds out that the mansion isn’t empty as people says because she met a mysterious girl there named Marnie. She started visiting mansion  very often and becomes good friends with her.She also starts to suspect some sort of mystery surrounding Marnie. But as the time comes near for her departure from this town, the mystery begins to unfold little by little.

Verdict-

When Marnie Was There tells the touching story of a young girl’s journey through self-discovery and friendship, and the summer that she will remember for the rest of her life. The Art is simple yet alluring and won’t let you get over it Cause of it’s breathtaking art and style. Studio ghibli is always known to deliver a masterpiece which is somehow different from everything we’ve seen so far with interesting story and eye catchy visuals. And this movie has all these things of an usual Ghibli’s movie. So if you’re a fan of ghibli’s previous works then it sure gonna be your next favorite.
